Birmingham is the second biggest city in england & its a truly modern place with lively nightlife and some wonderful opportunities for shopping. Birmingham is situated in the county of the west midlands &, according to a estimate in 2006, it has a population of 1,006,500.

People who are from birmingham are often called 'Brummies', because of the city's nickname of Brum. this name comes from the city's dialect name, Brummagem, which is originated from one of the city's earlier names, 'Bromwicham'. there is a distinctive Brummie accent, which is characteristic of people who are from this city.

Whether you're visiting brum for a day trip or staying in the city for a weekend break or short holiday, you will find plenty of interesting things in the city to look around during your visit.

Whether you want to enrich your mind at one of brum's museums or you're hoping to join in with a cultural or sporting event, the city really has things for everyone to enjoy.

If you would like to experience a day out for all the family in Birmingham that is fun and educational, visit one of the city's fantastic museums, art galleries or other attractions. one of our favourites is the Wallsall Leather Museum, which demonstrates the tanning & production of leather. the best thing is, there is a fantastic souvenir store too, so you will be able to purchase some top-quality leather goods during your visit.

As you might already know, birmingham is home to the Bullring shopping centre, which ensures it is the perfect city for shopping fans to visit. in fact, the Bullring boasts over 110,000 square feet of retail space, which features some fabulous stores such as skechers, vivienne westwood, & punkyfish.

On the other hand, there's many stores in the centre of the city, too. you'll find some premier stores placed on the high street, as well as a handful of great independent stores in The Custard Factory, which was built on the site of a custard factory.

If you are staying for a weekend away or short holiday in brum, you should ensure you experience the city's fantastic night life. in fact, the city has quaint pubs, vip cocktail bars & some great night clubs, so you will be spoilt for choice.

For fanaticals of rock or indie music, there are numerous venues to see live music in the city including the birmingham academy. in addition to this, you will also discover many rock bars & night clubs too, so you will have a great time.

We hope that you have enjoyed our guide to things to do in Birmingham & would appreciate your feed back. If you require any additional info on Birmingham, do not hesitate to get in touch with your localised tourist information office who will be pleased to assist you.
